India vs Australia T20 series 2025 ended with no result match, while India was leading the series after their last in Queensland

While both teams were eager for a decider, nature had the final say, sealing India’s triumph in a tour that provided plenty of learning moments for both sides ahead of next year’s T20 World Cup.

The Brisbane Washout

The Brisbane match called out as a No result after few overs bowled and Indian openers were dominating the powerplay. Dark clouds appear in Gabba right after the toss, and didn’t allow the match to continue. Shubman Gill 29* and Abhishek Sharma 23* was on fire when a rain put a pause on their attack.

Later in evening, the match had been called off, and India was confirmed as a winner by 2-1.

Queensland Turnaround: The Defining Win

The 4th T20 game was series defining moment for India. After the first game washout, India lost the second game and was 1 down in the series. Even Australia’s win in the 2nd T20 was one sided and was big win.

After 2nd T20, Australia was looking favorites, after ODI series. India leveled the series after thrilling win Hobart, where Arshdeep and Washington Sundar shines in India’s win.

India’s 48-run win in the 4th T20 at the Carrara Oval proved to be the key moment of the series. After setting a target of 168, India’s spinners took charge — Washington Sundar (3/3), Axar Patel, and Varun Chakravarthy combined to spin Australia out for just 119.

Australia was 67/1 at one point in the game, and suddenly lost nine wickets in just 52 runs, and collapsing at 119. This victory gave India lead of 2-1, and eventually after Brisbane washout India announced as a winner of the series.

Abhishek Sharma: Player of the Series

The breakout star of the tour was Abhishek Sharma, who was named Player of the Series. Opening the innings, he provided brisk starts in almost every game, scoring 163 runs at an exceptional strike rate.

He continued with his fearless stroke play, in Australian conditions where pace and bounce is always a challenge for subcontinent batsman, his ability to attack the pace ball was standout feature. Abhishek’s ability to dominate the new ball hinted that India have found a dependable T20 opener for future tours.

Abhishek also completed 1000 runs in T20 internationals, and claim the world record for the fastest in terms of balls faced to complete 1000 runs. Abhishek took 528 balls to reach this milestone.

Abhishek became the 2nd fastest Indian to get to the 1000 runs marks after Virat Kohli.

Abhishek is consistent since this year’s Asia cup, where he outplayed the opponent by his fiery innings.

What This Means for Both Teams

For India, 3merging talents like Abhishek Sharma and Washington Sundar demonstrated they can handle pressure and adapt to conditions. India tested the bench strength, and tested most of their world cup options. They experimented with Harshit Rana in first two games, but he is not the substitute for Arshdeep Singh despite his ball hitting skills. India got clarity about the significance of the main and wicket taking bowlers.

For Australia, their aggressive approach in the powerplay worked at times, but the inability to rotate strike against spin remains a weakness. Australia is pretty well sorted from bowling perspective. Starc, Hazlewood, and Zampa can always trouble any batting line up. They tested their young guns as well.

India vs Australia T20 Series 2025: Final Thoughts

Rain may have ended the series early, but a 2–1 series win in Australia is no small feat, and the emergence of Abhishek Sharma as a fearless opener adds another weapon to India’s growing T20 arsenal.

Australia return to the drawing board with lessons to learn before their next assignment.
